    • The Rev. James B. Leslie in his book Armagh Clergy and Parishes (William Tempest, Dundalk, 1911) refers to Martin at page 390:
390 PARISHES OF MULLAVILLY AND NEWTOWNHAMILTON.
      ...
      NEWTOWNHAMILTON.—(Co. Armagh.)
      Rectors and Vicars.
      ...
1787—Robert Martin, coll. April 27 (D.R. ). He was C. Ballymoyer in 1765 ; m. (1) 1787 Ann Brownrigg, of St. Peter's Parish, Dublin (Lic. dated Nov. 10) ; (2) 1762 Sarah Gaskell (Lic. Sep. 8). One of his daus, Selina, was authoress of " Three years in Italy " and " Sketches of Irish History."
Another dau. Anne m. Sep., 1804, Sir Walter Synnot, Knt., of Ballymoyer (B.L.G.) as his 2nd wife, and had Richard Walter S., who m. in 1836 Henrietta, dau. of Henry Thornton, of Battersea Rise, M.P., by Mary, dau. of Joseph Sykes, of West Ella. Hull, and had Henrietta Louisa. He d. in 1796.

The marriage to Ann Brownrigg is discounted as it does not appear in Leslie in 1948. There was a marriage of a Rev. Robert Martin of Dawson-street to a Miss Brownrig of Stephen's-green, reported in the Dublin Evening Post on 17 Nov 1787. This must have been a different Rev. Robert Martin. Leslie 1948 also corrects the marriage date of Rev. Robert and Sarah Gaskell to 17 Sep 1767. Thee is further evidence in Ancestry.com. Dublin, Ireland, Probate Record and Marriage License Index, 1270-1858 - the Keeper of the Public Records of Ireland notes a marriage licence for Sarah Gaskell and Rev. Robert Martin in 1767.

There is further evidence on http://www.geni.com/ which notes Sarah Gaskell as the mother of Anne and Selina and adds, as a child of Robert and Sarah, Robert Martin jr, who married Diane Sealy and with her had a child Bastable Samuel Martin (plus other children).

A transcription of a Betham chart, in the Burke Collection at PRONI, shows Rev. Robert Martin as having 5 children - William, James, Robert, Anne Elizabeth and Selina. William is shown as marrying a Gaskell, but this may be confusion with Rev. Robert's wife Sarah Gaskell, who is taken to be William's step-mother.

The Dublin Evening Post of 13 January 1785 notifies the opening of a Classical School at 17 Kildare Street by Rev. Robert Martin. Boarders were 25 guineas per year and 3 guineas entrance. Day boys were 4 guineas a year and a guinea entrance.
The Saunders's News-Letter of 23 August 1797 advises the end of vacation on 1 September for James's Town School, under the direction of Rev. Robert Martin.
It is not clear if these are the same school. But at least the latter cannot have been managed by the same person as Rev. Robert who married Sarah Gaskell, as he died in 1796.
