      Burke's Irish Family Records (1976) at page 1094 states:
      'Pierce Synnott, of Clongeen, owned corn and malt business in Wexford, ruined 1798 by Hessian cavalry, started a new business 1799, altered ancient family motto (Without Sin — Sine Macula), to
      Virtue Flourishes upon a Wound, because of family suffering in 17th cent, b 1753, m Catherine Nolan, of Bigbarn, co Wexford (d 30 March 1824), and d 12 June 1843, having had issue, ...'
