  • Notes

    • P. Hore Synnott Pedigree (1913), page 22:
'Kathe. = John son of Sir Caesar Colclough'

Hore has a different lineage for John Colclough from other sources e.g. Burke's Irish Family Records (1976) says:
'Katherine, m John Colclough, of Pouldarrig, son of Sir Thomas Colclough, of Tintern Abbey, co Wexford (see that family).
However, Burke's entry for Colclough says:
'Sir Thomas Colclough, Kt (1591), of Tintern Abbey...
      3. John of Pouldarig, living 1642, m. Katherine, dau of William Synnott, of Rosegarland, co. Wexford (see that family), and had issue... '
There is some confusion here, but there is no known marriage of a Katherine Synnot from Rosegarland to a Colclough. An additional issue is that John of Pouldarrig was born about 1590-1605, based on the birth of his father Sir Thomas (1 Apr 1564) and the death of his mother Martha (19 Mar 1609) after 11 children.
Sir Thomas married (2ndly) Eleanor Bagenal, they had 3 sons and a daughter. Eleanor died in 1632. Their 3rd son was John, born between about 1615 and 1632, and alive in 1642.
Only the first John could have been of the right age to marry Katherine Synnot in 1627, but he was NOT the son of Sir Caesar Colclough. The first Sir Caesar (2nd Bt) was born in 1642, married Frances Clark and did not have a son John. His son Sir Caesar (3rd Bt) dsp.
A further complication is that Katherine's aunt Catherine Synnot is said in Hore (1913) to have married John son of Sir Thomas Colclough of Tintern Abbey circa 1590, citing F**" Certif: Ulster: Off: This is improbable, as Sir Thomas was born in 1564. Sir Anthony Colclough Kt (1582) who died 9 Dec 1584 was father of many children including Sir Thomas and a John, who could have been the right age to marry Catherine Synnot.
