  • Notes

    • There is a brief obituary for Henry in The Annual Register: A Review of Public Events at Home and Abroad for the Year 1888, Part II page 158:
'On the same date at Brighton, aged 85, Henry William Field, Queen's Assay Master until the office was abolished in 1871. He was descended from Oliver Cromwell.'
The previous obituary was for Thomas Harrington Tuke, M.D. who died 9 June 1888.

The age fits his accepted birth date of 23 March 1803, and certainly the name Cromwell was part of the forenames of some of his children. However, there appears to be some doubt over his identity - 'Profiles of the Past' at
      http://profilesofthepast.org.uk/mckechnie/field-henry-william-mckechnie-section-7
gives his birth date from a family bible as 17 Apr 1810 at 5:25. This Henry William had 2 wives (neither of them Anna Mills) but the same names for his father (John, who died 1848 not 1843) and mother (Mary), and was also associated with the Royal Mint.
