  • Notes

    • The Inangahua Times reported on 1 Dec 1911 that F. Simmis had been selected to represent Reefton in the match v. Crushington in sports team. 11 players were selected with 5 reserves. The sport is not mentioned, though the New Reefton Tennis Club is mentioned earlier in the article.
The 'F. Simmis' is assumed to be Frank rather than his brother Fred, as Frank appears to have kept his ties with Reefton - on enlistment for WW1 service, Fred gave his next-of-kin as his step-father W. M. Tapp in Wanganui; Frank listed his brother W. J. Simmis of Reefton.

Before enlisting in the N.Z.E.F., and serving in France in WW1, Frank was a driver at Taihape.

Frank received WW1 honours. He died of wounds in France about 24 Jul 1918, as recorded in a Certificate of Death of New Zealand Expeditionary Force dated 7 Jan 1919, Wellington.

Frank, a private in the Cyclist Corps of the NZ Expeditionary Force, signed a will on 21 May 1918, appointing his brother William Joseph Simmiss of Broadway, Reefton, labourer, as sole executor. Frank left his effects in equal shares to William, and to another brother George Charles Simmiss of the N.Z.E.F. No. 4/1845, formerly of Wanganui, motor mechanic. Witnesses to the will were Sgt. H. C. Coats of the NZ Cyclist Corps and 2nd Lieutenant D. C. Griffiths of the Corps.

Probate of his will was granted to his brother William on 10 Feb 1919 at the Supreme Court at Wanganui.
